Eliyahu and Davening in back of a Shul
- Maharsha writes that the correct version seems to be that it was an Arab merchant who killed the person davening in back of the Shul, and not Eliyahu, for would such a transgression warrant the death penalty?
- Ben Yehoyadah says that one who transgresses the words of our Sages is chayav misah.
- Maharsha offers an alternative explanation: The person davening appeared like an Arab merchant and therefore Eliyahu killed him (why? still not sure).
- How could Eliyahu make a mistake? This question we found in Megadim Chadashim, who cites a different Maharsha in Makos (12a) that an angel cannot make a mistake.
- Eliyahu was a Kohen; how could he kill him with a sword? Wouldn't he automatically become tamei?
- Some say that whenever it says in the Gemora, "Hahu taya," it is referring to Eliyahu.
- There are those that ask on this rule from our Gemora and from Moed Katan (25b)
